Lettre à moi-même #1
With lettre à moi-même #1, Patricia Dreyfus initiates a body of work in which textile becomes both surface and metaphor. She is not interested in precision or decorative refinement; instead, she leaves quasi-fractured lines on the fabric, allowing gestures to remain visible, vulnerable, unresolved.
As in her drawings, figuration and abstraction intertwine to form fragmentary narratives. Cloth — intimate and supple — functions as a second skin, capable of covering and protecting. Yet through stitching, this protective layer is pierced. The thread pulls what lies beneath to the surface. What was concealed becomes visible.
Embroidery thus becomes both revelation and exposure — a quiet but radical act of turning the inner outward.
