Lettre à moi-même #2
Galerie Susanne Albrecht, Berlin
05.12.2020 – 15.02.2021
Patricia Dreyfus does not write literal letters to herself; instead, she constructs a visual language that follows its own internal logic. Her imagery emerges intuitively, often in states close to insomnia, unfolding without censorship — akin to surrealist écriture automatique. Dreamlike figures and symbolic motifs suggest autobiographical layers while resisting fixed interpretation.
The exhibition brings together her sculptural heads (têtes), drawings and embroideries in a dialogue across media. The works reveal an intimate visual diary shaped by repetition and transformation. In embroidery, figures appear and disappear within fragile fabrics, extending her drawing practice into thread. Themes of female identity, sexuality and motherhood recur — strength and vulnerability intertwined.
Her clay and bronze heads form a distinct body of work: raw, archaic presences that develop into a personal mythology of faces both familiar and timeless.
